iCAN’s fourth annual Research & Advocacy Summit in Edinburgh, July 9-13, 2018

iCAN (international Children Advisory Network) fourth annual Research & Advocacy Summit took place on  July 9-13, 2018 in Edinburgh and for the first time the members of KIDS Bari, the first Italian YPAG (Young Patient Advisory Group), and KIDS Albania participated to this important meeting.

SIAR Conference in Rome, July 10, 2018

 

KIDS Bari participated in the Conference “Active participation in the processes that generate new therapies: development, evaluation and real access to dangerous treatments” organized by SIAR in collaboration and with the patronage of AIFA, the Gianni Benzi Foundation and Cittadinanzattiva, describing the activities carried out by the advisory group.

18th World Congress of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology in Kyoto, Japan, July 1-6, 2018

 

The Congress was focused on the theme of “Pharmacology for the Future Science, Drug Development and Therapeutics.” CVBF participated in the event with a poster presentation describing the first results of the PedCRIN project, aimed to enhance the quality, safety, efficacy and ethical standards of multinational, non-commercial paediatric clinical trials. Within PedCRIN, CVBF is in charge to develop new tools to this purpose. You can find the poster here.

The new European proposal for the next Research Framework Program innovation (FP9)

On 7th June 2018, the European Commission presented the package of formal proposals for the next Research and Innovation Framework Program (FP9), thus officially opening the legislative path that will lead to the approval of Horizon Europe, the next €100 billion research and innovation programme that will succeed Horizon 2020.

IntechOpen Book: two chapters related to the innovative approaches in paediatric clinical research have been published

In June 2018, IntechOpen Book, one of the world’s leading publisher of open access books, published the book entitled “The Management of Clinical Trials”, including two chapters written by experts from CVBF and  PHARM – Pharmaceutical Research Management srl  and dedicated to the paediatric clinical research and in particular to the innovative approaches that can be used to promote high quality paediatric studies.

CVBF included by Financial Times in the list of the 1000 Europe’s Fastest-Growing Companies

In April 2018, CVBF was included in the Financial Times (FT) 1000 report, a list of the companies in 31 European countries that have achieved the highest percentage growth in revenues between 2013 and 2016. The report explores the importance of companies as an economic driver in Europe. The list is available at the following webpage: https://ig.ft.com/ft-1000/2018/.

SPASD Project: an e-learning course was produced for primary and secondary school teachers working with autistic children

The SPASD project is going to launch an e-learning course (composed of 4 modules) aimed to increase competences and skills of teachers which do not only concern providing high quality and inclusive classroom teaching but also providing support in the transfer of capabilities from school to community life for students with ASD and in building a partnership with parents in educating the child.

conect4children: launch of a new public-private partnership to improve clinical trial infrastructure

The members of the “conect4children” (c4c) initiative announced the start of a large collaborative paediatric network that will facilitate the development of new drugs and other therapies for the entire paediatric population in Europe. The c4c project gathers a consortium of 33 academic and 10 industry partners from 20 European countries, more than 50 third parties and around 500 affiliated partners with the aim to deliver high quality clinical trials in children and young people across all conditions and phases of the drug development process.

From 4th until 7th September 2018, a new edition of the Europe Biobank Week (EBW) will take place in Antwerp, Belgium and will be focused on the theme “Biosharing for Scientific Discovery”. The event has been co-organised by BBMRI-ERIC and ESBB and represents one of the most significant biobanking conferences worldwide.

On 5-6 September 2018 EMA (European Medicines Agency) and ACCELERATE – Innovation for children and adolescents with cancer will organize the third multi-stakeholder Paediatric Strategy Forum, that will be focused on checkpoint inhibitors used in combination therapy, in children and adolescents.

21-22 June 2018: workshop on Development of antibiotics for children – towards a global approach

On 21 -22 June 2018 a workshop co-organised by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the Japanese Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) and the United States’ Food and Drug Administration (FDA) took place at EMA’s premises in London to discuss the development of antibiotics for children.
