President
Ornella Pastoris
Ornella Pastoris is an Adjunct Professor at the Department of “Biology and Biotechnology” at the University of Pavia. She has previously served as a member of the Board of Directors and the Academic Senate of the University of Pavia. She was also the former President of the Didactic Council for Biotechnological Sciences and Coordinator of various programs, including the Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, the Master’s degree in Experimental and Applied Biology, the Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, and the Master’s degree in Advanced Biotechnology. She oversees the Master’s Plus program in collaboration with companies and industries in the biotechnology sector.
Her research activities have primarily focused on cerebral and muscular bioenergetics, involving the evaluation of biochemical parameters in animal models and subsequently in the human field. In this context, she has been involved in the study of neurodegenerative diseases and neuromuscular disorders in pediatric patients. Currently, her research includes pharmacogenetics, particularly the study of genetic polymorphisms in patients who have exhibited adverse reactions following the intake of drugs or substances of abuse.
She is the author of over 160 publications in national and international journals and has participated as a speaker in numerous conferences. Currently, she serves as the President of CVBF and is a Member of the Technical Scientific Committee of BioBasic Europe.

Cosimo Damiano Altomare
Cosimo D. Altomare is full professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Department of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Bari (Italy) since 2001, where he currently serves as Coordinator of the M.Sci. Degree in Pharmacy and Industrial Pharmacy. At the beginning of his career, he spent more than two years (1990-92) as post-doctoral fellow at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland), whereas in 2008 and 2015 he was appointed as visiting professor at the Peoples Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) in Moscow and the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain). Prof. Altomare has authored more than 150 publications in journals with high impact factor, several book chapters and international patents, mostly pertaining computational chemistry, cheminformatics and molecular modeling as applied to drug design and repurposing of novel neurological, cardiovascular and anticancer agents. Invited speaker at several international conferences, since 2012 he serves as Co-Editor of the European Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Elsevier). Currently involved in a project on drug repurposing in rare diseases (DefeatLD), supported by NextGenerationEU funds (PNRR), in the framework of long-dating collaboration with Consorzio per Valutazioni Biologiche e Farmacologiche (CVBF), Prof. Altomare actively contributed with his research unit within two projects: Small Medicines Advanced Research Training (SMART) and the European Paediatric Translational Research Infrastructure (EPTRI).

Graziano Pesole
Graziano Pesole is Full Professor of Molecular Biology at the University of Bari and a leader in the fields of bioinformatics, comparative genomics, and molecular evolution. He is currently focused on developing and applying bioinformatics methods for analyzing next generation sequencing data, including genome and transcriptome assembly, gene expression profiling, mutation detection, metagenomics, and more. Pesole has created widely-used bioinformatics software tools and databases such as UTRdb, ASPicDB, Weeder, and REDIportal. He leads an interdisciplinary research group and has coordinated multiple funded research projects from Italian and European agencies. Pesole is a Founding Member and Past President of the Italian Society of Bioinformatics and currently heads the Italian node of ELIXIR, a European infrastructure for bioinformatics. He serves on the editorial boards of leading bioinformatics journals and has authored books, book chapters, and patents in the fields of bioinformatics and genomics.

Lucia Margari
Lucia Margari is Full Professor of Child and Adolescent Neuropsychiatry at the University of Bari, Italy, where she has served in various leadership roles since 1994. She has directed the Child and Adolescent Neuropsychiatry Unit since 2005 and the School of Specialization in Child and Adolescent Neuropsychiatry since 2004. She previously held positions as Associated Professor (2002-2006) and Researcher (1994-2002) in Child and Adolescent Neuropsychiatry. Margari completed her medical training at the University of Bari, earning a Medical Doctorate in Neurology in 1984. She has authored over 100 publications in child and adolescent psychiatry and neurology. Margari is a member of several professional societies, having served on the board of the Italian Society of Child and Adolescent Neuropsychiatry (2008-2014) and held leadership roles representing child neuropsychiatry within European medical organizations. Her research and clinical work focuses on assessment and treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders in youth.

Donato Bonifazi
Donato is the Chief Executive Officer of CVBF.
Work experience:
He is Coordinator of EPTRI (European Paediatric Translational Research Infrastructure). He has been President of the Italian Association of CROs (AICRO) between 2018-2020, and Trial Leader of two EU-funded multinational clinical trials (DEferiprone Evaluation in Paediatrics and GAbapentin for Paediatric Pain, both funded within the FP7-Health) between 2011-2017. He is Chair of the Events&Training Working Group of the EUCROF (European Clinical Research Organizations Federation) and member of the Coordinating Group at the Enpr-EMA (the European Network of Paediatric Research at the European Medicines Agency) representing the TEDDY European Network of Excellence for Paediatric Research, in his role of Board Member. He is between the founders of INCiPiT, the Italian Network for paediatric clinical trials, and of the two YPAGs (Young Persons Advisory Groups) in Italy and Albania.

Adriana Ceci
Adriana is the Scientific Advisor at CVBF.
Work experience:
Past-President and Board Member of Fondazione per la Ricerca Farmacologica Gianni Benzi onlus; she has also lectured in many academic courses in the field of Paediatric and Regulatory Sciences.
She is Chair of scientific Committees in Paediatric Networks (INCiPiT, the Italian Network for paediatric clinical research and c4c, the European paediatric clinical trial Network). Is a Board member and founder of TEDDY European Network of Excellence for Paediatric Research, and vice President of EPTRI – European Paediatric Translational Research Infrastructure
Past member of the Paediatric Committee at the European Medicine Agency (EMA) and of the Italian Ministry of Health – Commissione Unica del Farmaco, she also served as member of the “Commissione Nazionale del Sangue”, “Commissione per la Sperimentazione Clinica” at the Minister of Health.
Former member and Vice-President of the Commissione Sanità of the Italian Parliement and also member of the European Parliament where she founded the EU Parliamentary Inter-Group on Health that she coordinated for 5 years.
She is referee of several international journals and author of more than 140 indexed publications mainly dealing with orphan and paediatric medicines, blood diseases, thalassemia, paediatric research, regulatory science.

Giovanni Migliaccio
Giovanni Migliaccio is the Scientific Director of the CVBF.
Work experience:
His interest in science developed around stem cell proliferation and differentiation mechanisms. He spent two years as Post Doc at the University of Washington (Seattle, WA) and 5 years as Associate Scientist at the New York Blood Center (New York, NY). He continued his studies at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) in Rome resulting in more than 150 scientific publications over the years. He is involved in the regulatory aspects of using cultured cells as part of human therapies and acts as an expert for the Italian government in the area of Cell and Gene Therapies. He is also an expert for these products for the European Medicines Agency (EMA). He was also the Chair of the CTP group at the European Department for Quality of Medicines (EDQM) from 2010 to 2018.
Education:
Master’s Degree in Biological Science at the University of Naples. He obtained a PhD in Biological science in 1977 at the University of Naples Federico II.

Manika Kreka
Manika works at the Tirana branch office of CVBF as Medical Director, and is involved in multinational clinical trials as Medical Expert.
Work experience:
From 2004 she works as a lecturer in Faculty of Technical Medical Sciences, University of Medicine in Tirana. She holds the Vice Dean’s position and is a professor of Pediatrics and Medical genetics. She works as a pediatrician in University Hospital Center” Mother Teresa” Tirana, Center of Congenital Blood Diseases. In 2011 she becomes Doctor of Science (PhD) in Pediatrics and from 2016 she is Associated Professor. . She has been Principal Investigator in a multicentric clinical study (DEferipron Evaluation in Paediatrics). She is writer of scientific articles and publications, and author of some academic textbooks: Textbook of Medical Genetics and elements of molecular biology, Textbook of Pediatrics (both for University students) and two monographs (one in English and one in Albanian).
Education:
She attended university studies in Faculty of Medicine, in Tirana University (Albania). She obtained the diploma of Medical Doctor in 1998. During 1999-2003 she attended the post graduated school on pediatrics residency in Tirana, Albania.

Alessandra Foietta

Expertise in oncology area (mainly Ematology) in early compound and transplantation. Track record of driving clinical team performance to achieve superior project delivery, patient engagement, and site management.

Cristina Manfredi
Cristina leads the Regulatory and Safety Area at CVBF. She is EudraVigilance Specialist and Clinical Project Manager of an international project.

Health Research Project
and Biostatistics Head
Giorgio Reggiardo
Giorgio Reggiardo is the Head of Health Research Project and Biostatistics Unit at CVBF.
Work experience:
He is trained in epidemiology, biostatistics, multivariate analysis, Bayesian inference, meta-analysis, “big data” analytics, and clinical trial design. Since 1997 he has served as lead statistician for Phase I-IV clinical trials to provide statistical support for study design and statistical analysis, including pharmaceutical industry-sponsored successful Marketing Authorizations (AIC) submissions. He has expertise in the design and analysis of clinical trials, controlled randomized trials, power calculations, generalized estimating equations, survival analysis, and regression methodology. His expertise includes processing and analysing data using SAS, R, SPSS, BMDP, NCSS-PASS, NQuery and EquivTest. He wrote SAS Macros and R functions that carry out data management and statistical procedures, and he presented statistical methodological work in several professional conferences. Since 2012 he has been involved as a statistician in two International Pharmacovigilance Department for the detection of emerging signals of interest for pharmacovigilance (Statistical approach to Signal Detection Analysis). Since 2013 he has been actively involved in the Italian CDISC User Network group in collaboration with IBiG (Italian Biostatistics Group) and SAS Institute.

Mariagrazia Felisi
Mariagrazia currently works at CVBF Clinical Projects Director & Auditor participating in the CVBF projects ensuring the respect of of high quality standards. She is teacher in numerous courses in her field of expertise.
Work experience:
She has conducted research in the paediatric field, where she approached the sectors of clinical pharmacology, pharmacovigilance, management of disease registries which ultimately led her to acquire extensive knowledge and expertise in the field of clinical research. She has been participating in numerous national and international research projects, playing the leading role in many activities related to clinical trials.
Education:
Master’s Degree in Life Science, she received her PhD in clinical pharmacology from the University of Bari and her Master degree in Pharmacovigilance from the University of Florence.

Rosa M. D'Ignazi
Rosa is the Administration Head at CVBF, involved in administrative, financial and legal issues, and Contract Manager.
Work experience:
Rosa has a strong experience as Administrative Manager in previous experiences with companies and associations.

Rosa Padula
Rosa is the Head of Data Management Unit and a Clinical Project Manager at CVBF. She is also a Senior CRA.
Work experience:
Rosa has several years of experience in Clinical Research. Main area of activities: set-up of local/international project activities according to the company standards and regulations. Managing tasks/activities according to project-specific quality standards as well as relevant SOPs, ICH/GCP and local requirements. Preparation/Review of regulatory documentation for EC/AC submission. Editing and Review of trial documentations: protocol, CRF, ICF, IB. Contract negotiation and finalization with study sites. eCRF development, testing and management. Monitoring activities.

Alessandra Ferrari
Alessandra collaborates with CVBF as Clinical Research Associate.
Work experience:
Alessandra has gained significant experience in the field of clinical research, working with CROs, and holding the role of Clinical Trial Assistant, Clinical Research Coordinator and Clinical Research Associate at the I.R.C.C.S. Policlinico San Matteo. She worked also as a pharmacist.
Education:
Master’s Degree in Pharmacy at the University of London. Alessandra performed the training “biomedical research specialist” getting the requirements for monitoring activities as Clinical Research Associate. She has achieved the medical specialty in clinical pharmacology at the University of Milan. She performed the training Eudravigilance for electronic reporting of ICSRs (EMA) and then the advanced course in Pharmacovigilance, University of Milan. Arlinda Demeti
Arlinda is a Clinical Reasearch Associate at CVBF, appointed for international studies having clinical sites in Albania, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland.
Work experience:
Arlinda has been working under the Directorate of Health and Social Projects at the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Albania where she was involved in several health projects focusing on the digitalisation of Albanian Health System (e-referral, e-prescriptionin, human resource management system, e-social services registry). Further, Arlinda was part of the research unit at the Swiss Paraplegic Center in Notwill/Switzerland where she also performed practical work in the biobanking laboratory with the latest methodologies and devices to isolate cells, DNA, RNA. In addition, she has been working as retail pharmacist and technical manager pharmacist for 4 years in Albania in both pharmacy and pharmaceutical warehouse.

Arlinda Demeti holds a Master of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of Tirana (Albania), and a Master of Arts in Health Sciences at the University of Lucerne (Switzerland) with a major in Health Services and Systems Research.

Benedetta has been appointed as Legal Officer at CVBF and Regulatory Officer in training.

In 2021, she began her career in clinical trials as a data manager after a successful application for a fellowship at Policlinico of Foggia.

Claudia Pansieri
Claudia works as Health Research Project and Data Manager. She is an expert in health data and participates in international projects.
Work experience:
Research Fellow at HUNIMED-Humanitas University and at IRCCS Mario Negri, where she developed skills in project development, clinical epidemiology, longitudinal research, and evidence synthesis (by means of systematic reviews and meta-analyses) to inform health care decisions. She is author and co-author of several scientific publications in national and international journals.

Daniele Giachello
Daniele holds the role of Data Manager at CVBF and is involved in all the activities of a clinical study at the Burlo Garofolo paediatric IRCCS.

Daniele worked as scholarship holder for Istituto Neurologico Carlo Besta, where he was part of the Laboratory of Movement Disorders and worked on genetic testing via sanger sequencing.

Davide Usai
Davide currently works at CVBF as Clinical Research Associate.
Work experience:
Davide worked as a thesist student on Nanosuspension and fast dissolving microneedles and worked as a pharmacist for almost one year.

Elisa Cattani

Emanuela Crea
Emanuela joined CVBF as a Project Development Trainee.
Education:
Emanuela holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology (University of Messina). Master’s Degree in Functional Genomics (University of Trieste) and a Ph.D. in Translational Medicine at Department of Molecular Medicine – Human Physiology (University of Pavia). Emanuela has attended a training course of 50 hours in Clinical Research (as per DMC 15/12/2011).

Fabrizio Picciolo
Fabrizio joined CVBF as Clinical Trial Assistant and performs monitoring activities in non-pharmacological studies.
Work experience:
Fabrizio worked as a pharmacist for 11 years. He began training in clinical research in 2019. In 2022 worked as a data manager at the Gimema foundation based in Rome.
Education:
Master’s Degree in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies from the University of Bari. He obtained a master’s degree in oncology pharmacy and a sports nutritionist certificate.

Francesca Cadile
Francesca joined CVBF as a Pharmacovigilance and Safety Officer Trainee.
Education:

Giulia Maggi
Giulia works as Health Research Project and Biostatistics at CVBF, after being involved also in the Data Management Area.
Work experience:
Giulia worked as a Data Manager in clinical environment and then as a Biostatistician at the University of Milan dealing in particular with the statistical evaluation of immune variables as prognostic biomarkers in tumor patients and clinical databases management.

Giusi Di Leo
Giusi is the Office Manager at the Bari office of CVBF, where she works as Human Resources Manager and Accounting Manager.

Irisi Sukaj
Irisi holds the role of Regulatory Officer at CVBF, and Clinical Project Manager with reference to multinational trials, working in several languages (Albanian, English, French, German, Italian).
Work experience:
A highly experienced professional in Drug Regulatory Affairs with more than 12 years involvement in the sector, Irisi Sukaj has successfully held the position of Head of Regulatory Affairs and Pharmacovigilance Department in the only Albanian Pharmaceutical Industry for over 10 years.
Education:
Irisi Sukaj concluded the general high-school in her hometown in Albania with excellent results. She holds an Integrated Diploma of 2nd degree in Pharmacy from the University of Tirana and a 2nd level Master degree from the University of Camerino, Italy in “Hospital and Territorial Pharmacy”.

Laura Villani
At CVBF Laura operates as Regulatory Officer, supporting EU and extra EEA Sponsors in the preparation and submission of the clinical trial application dossier on investigational medical products.
Work experience:
She worked for several years as Molecular Biologist in the Haematologic Research area in public Institutes for Hospitalization and Care of a Scientific Character (IRCCS). After attending the Advanced Training Course as “Specialist in Biomedical Research” she obtained the Clinical Research Associate (CRA) certification according to the provisions of the D.M. November 15, 2011, Art 4.

Lavinia Bertolani
Lavinia at present works as Clinical Research Associate at CVBF.
Work experience:
She worked as Lab Manager at Humanitas Research Hospital. Previously she worked at the European Institute of Oncology (IEO).
Education:
Master’s Degree in Molecular Biology of the Cell at the University of Milan. 2021 Lavinia obtained the qualification to practice as Biologist and currently she is a member of ONB (AA_093065). Maria Rita Fagone
Maria Rita joined CVBF as Quality Assurance Manager.
Work experience:
Maria Rita performed an internship at the “Laboratory of Biocompatible Polymers” from the University of Palermo and another internship as pharmacist.
Education:
Master’s Degree in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology. Maria Rita decided to undertake a masterclass called “MYCROSCOPE” managed by A.I.C.R.O – Italian Association of Contract Research Organization. She attended the training course “Clinical Quality Assurance: un ruolo chiave nella ricerca clinica”.

Marta Gionfra
Marta currently holds the role of Clinical Research Associate at CVBF.
Work experience:
Marta worked as pharmacist. She performed a traineeship in order to become a Clinical Research Associate.

Marta obtained a Master’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology. She has got an II level Master in Monitoring, insurance and quality control in clinical trials from “La Sapienza” University of Rome.

Noemi is a Clinical Research Associate at CVBF.

Noemi worked as pharmacist. She performed a traineeship as Study Coordinator. She has been involved in clinical project management and regulatory activities

Ornela Cullufe
Ornela is the Office Manager at the Tirana branch office of CVBF, and works as Clinical Research Associate and Clinical Operation Manager. She is the Team Leader of the first YPAG (Young People Advisory Group) in Albania named KIDS Albania part of iCAN (International Children’s Advisory Network).

Ornela worked as pharmacist with extensive background in patient care, pharmacology, communication and implementation of health care programs.

She obtained her master’s degree in Pharmacy in 2014 from University of Medicine in Tirana (Albania).

Sabrina Marsigliano
Sabrina is a CRA Trainee and CTA at CVBF.
Work experience:
Sabrina worked as pharmacist. Her thesys project focused on cloning, bacterial expression and reconstitution of human mitochondrial carrier SLC25A44.

Master’s Degree in Pharmacy at the University of Bari.
Communication Manager
Sandra Brasil
Sandra collaborates with CVBF as Communication Manager.
Work experience:
Sandra worked as a post-doc in developing new therapies for Rare Diseases. She was also a researcher and patient advocate at the international network CDG & Allies – PPAIN (Professionals and Patient Associations International Network) and as a freelancer medical writer with Cactus Communications. She has experience in science communication and developing scientific content in lay language for all audiences.
Education:
Masters Degree in Biochemistry and a PhD in Pharmacy (field of Molecular and Cellular Biology) from the University of Lisbon, Portugal.
Data Protection Officer
Sergio Cannavò
Sergio joined CVBF as a Data Protection Officer (DPO) providing its knowledge on Privacy field.
Work experience:
Sergio is a Lawyer with deep experience in Environmental Law. He has also been a lecturer for several courses on specific issues of Environmental Law. Since 2019 he provides advice on consulting and training on privacy (GDPR), safety at work (D. Lgs.81/2008) and administrative responsibility of the entities (D. Lgs. 231/2001).
Education:
Master’s Degree in Law. He attended many training courses on Environmental Law, Privacy and Safety at Work.
Project Development Trainee
Shalom Govere
Shalom joined CVBF as a trainee supporting the Project Development Area.
Work experience:
During her academic experience, she has gained laboratory experience in formulation development and drug delivery. Shalom is skilled in pre-formulation, method development and optimization, product characterization, performance testing, stability testing and quality control. She also has experience as a Clinical Investigator in skin-blanching studies for corticosteroids applied topically. Shalom has 3 years of experience working as a Pharmacist in both the hospital pharmacy and the retail pharmacy sectors where she has taken part in community engagement and health awareness projects and initiatives.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy and Master’s degree in Pharmacy (Pharmaceutics) from Rhodes University in South Africa. Shalom studied towards a Master’s degree in Cosmetic Science at the University of Bologna.
Senior CRA
and Clinical Operation Manager
Silvia Pulici
Silvia is a Senior CRA and Clinical Operation Manager at CVBF.
Work experience:
Silvia worked 15 years in a pharmaceutical company first in Pre-Clinical Research, then in Clinical Research as Monitor and Associate Manager for clinical trial management. From 2008, she collaborated with San Matteo Hospital in Pavia, for 9 years, working at the Scientific Secretary of the Ethics Committee. She was involved as part of the Clinical Trial Quality Team of the Hospital in activities for improvement of quality of non-profit studies. She also collaborated in the activation of the San Matteo Phase I Clinical Trial Unit.

Somayeh Mahdikhani
Somayeh joined CVBF as a CRA supporting the monitoring activities.
Work experience:
Somayeh worked as full-time nurse in Iran and in Italy. In 2021 she was University Professor at University of Rome “La Sapienza”.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Sciences from Zanjan University of Medical Sciences. Master’s Degree in Nursing and Midwifery Sciences at University of Rome. PhD in Public Health and Infectious Disease, with a Thesys in “Exploring of self-care process among Iranian and Italian women with breast cancer: developing a theoretical model. (A qualitative study: grounded theory approach)”. She completed the training courses for Clinical Research Associates (CRAs) and Clinical Research Professionals.
